What was the revolution? what was the role of a loyalist?
The American Revolution started because the Colonial Americans were tired of being governed by England and their unreasonable tax laws. They wanted their own country, free from the King and Parliament with their ridiculous laws! These people are called Patriots/Radicals.
Things eventually got so bad that even tea was being taxed! The Patriots rebelled and dumped their tea into the Boston Harbor, which is known as the Boston Tea Party. Along with many other events, it all led up to the Revolution.
Loyalists were the people who were on Britain's' side. They did not rebel or really have a problem with what was happening. They are called "Loyalists" because they remained loyal to King George III and Britain's laws.
